Welcome to the SLAA Grant submission portal.
SLAA Grants support Christian ministry to adolescents in our Member congregations in the southeastern United States. Your congregation is a Member if it is part of the WELS South Atlantic District or ELS Circuit-1. (If you are unsure about whether your congregation qualifies, speak to your pastor.) Grant Applications are accepted every year from January 1 to April 15.
3 Grant Types Available
SLAA offers three Grant Types:
- Tuition Assistance Grants for students at synod-affiliated high schools
- Education Grants for programs at your congregation's Lutheran Elementary School
- Youth Ministry Grants for your congregation's teen ministries.
Select a Grant Type below to begin.
Description: Tuition Assistance Grants support youth in congregations of the South Atlantic District of the WELS, and Circuit 1 of the ELS, who are pursuing Christian secondary education in a qualifying Lutheran high school such as LPS, MLS or an area Lutheran High School. Grants are applied for by parents or guardians. Awarded funds are applied to student tuition accounts to help reduce the cost of their education.
Eligible Applicants: Students entering grades 9-12 that are members of a WELS South Atlantic District or ELS Circuit 1 congregation, and will be attending a WELS / ELS affiliated high school or preparatory school as a full-time student.
Grant Amounts: Varies by year. Previous Grants have ranged from $500-$2000 per student. The amount depends on available funds and number of eligible applicants. [SLAA $s / # of Applicants = Grant Amount $]. Since the # of applicants cannot be determined until fall enrollment is verified, SLAA is unable to promise a specific Grant amount ahead of time.
Timeline: Tuition Assistance Grant applications are accepted from January 1st to April 15th. Awarded funds are disbursed directly to the student's tuition account at their school at the beginning of the fall academic year after enrollment is verified.
